Aubrey Colbert

Hello, and welcome to this special corner of the internet. Thank you sincerely for joining us in carrying on Karla Kay’s incredible legacy. My name is Aubrey Colbert, and I had the privilege of knowing this inspiring woman as my beautiful ma. She wasn’t just the life of the party—she was the heart of it. Her ability to create a genuine, loving, and joyful space for everyone around her was her specialty. Whether it was the community she nurtured at her dream school, Serendipity Learning Center, the impromptu parties she hosted, or even the frog themed childhood bedroom she created for me, her warmth radiated through everything she did. I feel this foundation and website are another space brought to life by her love, and I am both proud and thankful to be a part of it.

Some of my earliest and most cherished memories are of my mom and her closest friends. As long as I can remember, she was a constant supporter and cheerleader for everyone she loved—what a gift that was. Now, working alongside these women, my mom’s loving husband, devoted brother, and my incredible sister, I know that these bonds endure, and the figurative pom-poms have been passed to us. My dedication to this mission comes from the love we all shared for my mom, and it drives me to carry her legacy forward. I’m honored to be part of this team, and I’m fully committed to honoring my mom’s memory through the work we do.

My mom, a successful and hardworking woman with a strong support system, was once uninsured. No one should ever have to worry about the financial burden of their illness on top of the challenge of facing it. Thankfully, Mark, my mom’s husband and the Vice President of the board, had insurance, which made navigating the complex process of treatment a bit more manageable. Yet my mom, a true fighter, selflessly pressed on—determined not only to battle her own illness but also to ensure others wouldn’t have to face the same hardships. During this time, I couldn’t help but think of the countless individuals and families who face this battle with little to no financial support.

I’ve always believed that accessible and affordable healthcare is a fundamental right for all. Being part of this foundation gives me hope because it’s about offering people the opportunity to catch health issues early—before they become too serious or life-threatening. Early detection can make all the difference, and I want to help ensure that people have the chance to get screened, regardless of one’s financial situation. My goal on this board is to celebrate Karla Kay’s life by continuing the work she would have done which is ultimately: giving families and friends more time. More time to dance, to watch sunsets, to share laughter and wine, to tell stories, and to make memories. These moments make life beautiful and I want to help others hold onto them for as long as possible.
